the man that walks behind me

the man that walks behind me

every step

every breath

mimicked seconds after.

by the man that walks behind me

he doesn’t talk

he doesn’t stop

he just always is walking behind me

a day too late

I turned around

stared into his empty eyes

and asked him why

his mouth, twitching the movements of words

spelled out, “follow the leader”

I am the man that walks behind me

dimensions apart

worlds away

look behind, you foolish children

there is always a man

that walks behind you.

he isn’t a ghost

he isn’t a joke

he is a game

of follow the leader

the leader, of course

is you
